"StorstadsLav" (Urban Lichen) 2009, wallpapered photoprint, 500x560 cm.
“Urban Lichen” is a site specific photo installation. The 5 by 5 meters print is an enlargement of a little lichen (plant which is both fungus and algea) that was found by a tree close to the Stockholm Metro. It speeks about scale, status, disgust and beauty. Instead of a subtle natural element that is seldom noticed, the viewer is here confronted with an enlarged Lichen of absurd mesure. Every crac and wrinkle shows. The coral like colors and formations of the lichen become a psychadelic sun, a lake of sulfur or maybe a topographical map of an inner landscape.
This work was part of a group exhibition "In and about altered states" featuring the 3rd year students of the Royal Institute of Art. At Konstakademien, Fredsgatan 12, Stockholm - May 28th to June 14th 2009.
